Robbie Cooper is an intriguing photographer who’s work relates well to the digital media project. His work ‘Immersion’ takes the form of videos and images made up of children playing violent video games. With a camera planted within the screen, he films the reactions and facial expressions as they play games such as Grand Theft Auto 4. This project highlights the growing obsession with video gaming for younger generations. Below I have linked both his video work and an interview with Cooper himself as he discusses the concept behind the work.
This video is a short shot of Robbie Cooper describing some of the ideas and concepts behind his ‘Immersion’ work.
His work in this area extends further than gaming and delves into a wider range of the ways we ‘interact with the screen’. One thing I came across was a second video of a similar nature, but with a slightly more adult theme. He films adults watching and reacting to pornographic images and movies. Pornography, like everything else has jumped into the digital world too.
